DIY Pair of Nightstands

Create a stunning pair of nightstands that look like they belong in a showroom!

When shopping for furniture, it can sometimes be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for. Any number of factors, from cost to material quality, can ultimately lead to being unsatisfied with the final decision. My girlfriend and I experienced this first hand when searching for nightstands for our new place. This circumstance is what lead me to the decision of simply making our own!

Doing some research, I came across a design for some simple farmhouse style nightstands made out of 2x4's and plywood (click here to see the originals). It's a great design, but I wanted to modify it a little to fit our style. In essence, the changes I made were: closing in the sides and back, changing the top to be solid walnut instead of stained dimensional boards, and painting the bodies navy blue.

Since this build was one of my first large projects in my new shop, I didn't get a bunch of photos from the construction process. You can get an idea of how these were built though by checking out the link above, as again, I mainly just modified it to fit the space and design style we were looking for. The true purpose in writing up this post was to show how you don't necessarily have to start from scratch on every project you make. Sometimes the best route is to take some elements of a design that's already out there and put your own spin on it!

We really love how these came out, and so does everyone who has come over to our house and seen them! Hopefully this gave you some inspiration to try building or modifying a design you've seen for yourself! If so, let me know! I love seeing all of the amazing creations other people have built. Till next time!
